Bishop, Lloyd & Jackson solicitors have been honoured to represent the second largest cohort of the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire which occurred on 14th June 2017.

We are privileged to represent a group of amazing and inspirational individuals, many of whom are families. They have had to rebuild shattered lives in the most difficult of circumstances and have shown incredible strength, courage, determination and resilience in dealing with the most horrendous tragedy one could imagine.

We have represented them as core participants and key stakeholders in the Grenfell Tower Inquiry, which is one of the largest and most complex Public Inquiries in British history. This has been a huge venture as the Inquiry interviewed hundreds of witnesses and heard live evidence over a period of 5 years. The Phase 2 (final) report will be published on the 4th of September 2024. We hope it will be strong in condemning the actions of those responsible for the fire and making recommendations which will be followed to ensure that this tragedy is never repeated.

Our clients’ civil compensation claims are part of a multi-party High Court action originally involving over 1000 claimants and 20 defendants, including multi-national corporations and central government and local government departments. We are currently involved in a confidential mediation process. The mediators include Lord Neuberger (former President of the Supreme Court) Bill Marsh (highly renowned international commercial mediator) and Anna Howard (renowned mediator and lecturer in law). They bring considerable expertise and experience to help navigate this complex litigation and have worked on all aspects of the Grenfell litigation.

We are proud to say that we are the only law firm to have obtained judgment against any party in the High Court Litigation. On the 28th of July 2022 and 17th November 2023, we obtained judgments against the Defendants to our clients claims; Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the Kensington and Chelsea Tenant Management Organisation. Please see videos and articles below.

Although Judgment will not provide final closure for our clients, accountability is an important step in helping in the healing process. Liability should have been admitted shortly after the fire but at least these two organisations have felt it right to admit their fault in the fire. We do hope that one day others will follow and admit their part in the cause of the tragedy.

In addition to the Inquiry and the High Court litigation, criminal prosecutions are likely to follow, but are pending awaiting the publication of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry’s Phase 2 report.

We will continue to work with our clients in order to seek justice. The fight continues.
